Modyl and ChatGPT dots · OpenAI
A dot works for you. Modyl works for the team.
ChatGPT dots are always-on agents for one person each. Modyl is one agent for many people, with one record of who decided what across every agent you run.
In OpenAI’s words
“Dots are remarkably capable, always-on agents built to handle everything.”
Quoted from openai.com“Your dot works on your behalf; specialist dots take on dedicated responsibilities within your organization.”
Quoted from openai.com“Over time, we envision teams of dots working together on your behalf.”

What it leaves open
A dot learns what good looks like to you. When your dot and a colleague’s dot want different things, OpenAI’s announcement does not say who decides or where that decision is kept. An approval is one person saying yes to one action.
One agent for many people, and the room where their calls are settled.
Use it with Modyl
- Today
A dot can use Modyl over MCP. Ask it what your agents did and what is waiting for you.
- Later
Dots raise a hand in a Modyl room when a call needs more than one person, and read the settled answer back.
Where each fits
Choose Modyl when
- A decision needs more than one person, and it has to be clear who owns it.
- Agents from more than one vendor work toward the same goal.
- The reason has to stay on record, tied to the version people saw.
ChatGPT dots alone is enough for
One person who wants a capable assistant across thousands of apps. A dot does that well. Bring the team’s calls to Modyl.
Keep your agents. Give the team one place to decide.
Modyl is in invite-only early access.
